BELOVED BLOOMS

GARDENING....oh, how I love it!  Before we bought this home, we owned a home in town on a city block with a very small yard.  We lived there for 13 years, so I soon ran out of space to add new plants to my garden.

When we bought this home on 5 acres of land, I thought...finally I'll get my large country garden!
This home had a small yard when we bought it which was completely surrounded by orange trees.  We immediately started clearing trees to make room for the garden.   When I say we, I do mean my husband and I cutting down at least 50 orange trees and burning brush over the course of a couple of years.  Ugh...it was exhausting!!

So, now I have about 1.5 acres of land to garden.  Sounds great, right.  Well...now we have to fill all that space with a very small budget and only two people to work the land.  It's very difficult at times, and I wish I could finish it overnight to see the vision I have in my head spilled out into my garden.   Sometimes I feel like we have more weeds than we do flowers (hee, hee), but my passion for gardening keeps me going.

This is the second spring since moving here that I have had the pleasure of enjoying watching new buds form on all my plants and gradually open to the beautiful blooms they behold within.

Here are some images from my two years young garden.
These wonderful blooms are what keeps me going!!  Hope you enjoy! :)

Mexican primrose, roses, hydrangeas, and allysum.

Ivy geranium.  This is one plant that started out with white blooms.  It has gradually started putting out pink blossoms.  Gotta love Mother Nature!!

Purple and white lantana, and our beloved cat, Sunshine.  :)

Heritage roses.

More ivy geraniums.

I hope the sun is shining wherever you may be (we have clouds again)!!
Have a great day!

  1. Jo, lucky you having so much space to express your love for gardening! You'll look back 10 years from now and will think how quickly your garden has grown!
No sun here, sadly it is raining yet again. We have a new weather pattern moving in for the weekend though, so all is well! :)

  2. Gorgeous flowers! We have started working on our yard which has a million shrubs and only 2 rose bushes. We're giving away most of the shrubs to people who want them and are willing to dig them up themselves. :)

I'd love to hear more about how you are adding to your garden on a small budget, as we have a teeny tiny gardening budget.

  3. Hi Jo,
Gorgeous garden! You've done a great job! I can only imagine how overwhelming it would be to fill up that much space. I'm overwhelmed by my little lot! But I am running out of space.....I have my side yard left to do & when it's full I don't know what I'll do. Guess I'll start dividing & giving away! :)

    Beautiful pics...

  5. Hi Jo, This is our first spring here so I am just seeing what was planted by the last
owner(s). So far daylilies and glads, I think. But next year...I'm already making plans! I hope mine will look as great as your garden does. Thanks for sharing your love of gardening.

  6. Your flowers are all so beautiful. You tore out 50 trees, what a lot of work. It will be so pretty when you are done. I love your white kitchen, your island is TDF!!! Your house is really lovely.

  7. Gorgeous! We had to satrt our garden from scratch and yes, it is very hard work and I sometimes do see more weeds than plants! I'm sure it's all worth it in the end!

  9. I have really enjoyed looking at your blog, so many lovely photos! We have a big project on our hands. We are creating a garden from scratch at the back of our house. A lot of work but I can't wait to see the results.

    Have a lovely weekend

    Warm wishes

  10. Wonderful pictures, Jo! I grow heritage roses also. My only complaint is that the blooms are so fleeting. They are so fragile and short-lived, I try to be ever-aware of how precious each one is. I tend a garden around the house which is half an acre, but we also own 12 acres of woods in an adjoining parcel. I have started to move some garden plants out to the future homesite there. Tending the 1/2 acre by myself gets overwhelming at times--there are so many flower beds to weed! I can understand your struggles. It is SO worth it, though, isn't it?
I am really loving your blog!

  12. That's to bad that you had to cut down the orange trees. I wish I could grow orange trees where I live. I love oranges.
