WHAT TO DO... and forcing apple blossoms

Thank you all so much for your really wonderful and encouraging comments on my "Goodbye" post.
What an overwhelming experience that was for me.  There were so many of you asking me to keep
my blog up so that you could continue to browse through my past posts for inspiration.  I wasn't
expecting that at all.  I had planned on changing the settings on my blog to private at the end of
March so that I could continue my new found passion for photography by adding my pictures to my
blog and continuing to chronicle the progress of our home and garden.

So, what do I do?  Well, I've decided to leave my blog up and add my photos to it, but with the
understanding that I won't be responding to emails or visiting everyone the way I used to... I just
don't have the time for that anymore. :(  I won't be putting together special posts or feature posts
anymore, hosting giveaways, or linking to any parties... all of the things that really take a lot of time.
I'll be posting whenever I feel like it, so it might only be once a month.  I'll try this out for a little while
to see how it goes.  If all goes well, I'll continue blogging this way.  If not, I can always make my blog
private at that time. :-)  Well, that's it.  I'm done with all of the drama... lol!  I imagine I will lose a lot
of followers, but that's OK.  I'm done worrying about that.  Life's too short. ;-)

Now, on to the pictures...

I brought some apple tree branches from our garden into the house about a week ago.  I love the
simple lines of the branches and subtle green color they add to the room.

I have some vintage sheet music pages and antique autograph book pages (similar to a high school
yearbook today, but without the pictures) from the 1880s displayed in a new Pottery Barn wall
hanging basket.

I also brought some of the apple tree branches into our living room.

I hope you all have a wonderful week!

'Til next time...

~ Jo :-)

  1. You really should do what is best for you and what is your passion.
Don't let others twist your arm to do something you don't have the heart for.
I am not trying to be rude to all those that want you to keep going, I completely understand why, your eye is great. But do what makes you happy in life and put your whole heart into your photos for yourself.

  2. So happy that you are still blogging. I have not been a very verbal follower, but a follower I am and a follower I will stay as long as you let me. I am here for your gorgeous photos and you sweet posts. Like I said, I am not a very good commentor, and I don't expect you to visit my blog and comment, unless you have time and desire. Please just keep posting you lovely pictures.

  4. Hi Jo, glad to see that you are still here. I think you've figured it out, and in some ways the rest of us should do what you are going to do. post because you enjoy it and then don't get caught up in all the rest of the hoopla (said by one who has a weekly party, but not enough time to visit everyone!)
I love coming here, so I'm glad that I can still enjoy seeing what you're up to. You have a way with photographing natural and simplistic things, bringing out their beauty.
    Take care of yourself,
    big hugs

  5. Jo, I think you're figuring out what true blogging is. It's your blog... it should be you. Not trying to keep up with blogs that are uber successful, not spending tons of money on giveaways and not battling with numbers as though they determine your own success. Blogging can be stressful, but fortunately it's self induced. That means you're the only one that can change that.

I say, enjoy your blog, the way that best suits your life - not tailoring your life to best fit your blog.

Continue with doing what you love - your photos and inspiring others... see where it takes you!

  6. I was so excited to see your post Jo! That is exactly what you should do - just blog when you feel like it and don't stress about visiting and numbers. It's okay to lurk when that's all you have time for. :)
    Rest easy and enjoy photography!

    Have a beautiful week!!!

  13. YaY! Your photos take me away to a happy place...a mini-retreat every time I come by. Ann Voskamp takes no comments at all on her blog and yet she has a HUGE following...so you could always turn us off. (If you're like me you feel it's not polite to not respond and thereby the pressure.)

  14. Hooray! I am so glad you are still blogging. Once a month...or whenever you feel like it is perfectly OK. I have cut back quite a bit, too. Homeschooling, growing a huge garden, spending time with my favorite people are first and foremost. I think most people really can relate and understand! It is so much fun, though, to have the option open to share when you can....and you have so much to offer. So glad you are still around:). Your blog is so inspiring:).

  21. Sweet Jo~ I'm so excited that you posted this as I wanted to leave you a comment yesterday but they were closed. Blogging is such a commitment and many times I too have thought about stopping. I feel so guilty if I'm not able to visit all of my favorite blogs and leave comments and of course there's the pressure of fresh posts on our own blogs. I've let all of it go a bit more this year so that I could stay focused on my family and full time job. After blogging for almost 2 years now I still feel disappointed when I don't get a lot of comments on posts so I've also considered turning the comments off and just posting when I feel like it...less pressure.

Whatever you decide to do is what's best for you at this time in your life but know that I will miss you and your fabulous home. Your photography is stunning so your idea of just posting pictures now and then sounds great. Please don't feel pressure to visit all of us~ we totally understand!!

Big hugs to you my friend~

Love my David Austins though, just like yours! : ) Take care!

Love the fresh color of the new buds on the apple blossoms. Very subtle, yet just the right pop.

Isn't vintage sheet music so wonderful...to me it adds romance to any room. Silly huh?

  36. Jo,

Sweetie, good for you! Blogging is supposed to be fun, not a job. If it is something you enjoy, do it, but do it because you want to, not because you have to. Life is what you are supposed to be living and the "virtual" life can totally get in the way if you let it. SO DON'T LET IT! We love seeing what you do, but let it be from your heart and not out of obligation. If you have time to comment, great. If not, no worries. We are all in the same boat. Kids to raise, husbands to tend to, homes we love that need cleaning, fluffing, reorganizing. Just do that and talk about it when you have time...blogging without obligation. That's what matters unless you are truly committed to using it as a stepping stone to something grander as SOME have and good for them, but most of us out here are just having fun. No drama, no pressure, just share as you have time. We will be here as we have time also.

Glad to see you and your beautiful home back out on the WWW,
    Hugs,
    Judy

  37. Jo, I was so happy to see your post tonight. I have missed you very much. I think you are doing exactly what you should do...blogging without obligation. Blogging should be a creative outlet not an obligation or popularity contest.

  58. Oh Jo! I am both surprised & happy to see you have returned to share your talent!! ♥ And I am happy for you that you have a new-found open door to blogging when *you* want to. I think that blogging how you want to and when you want to without feeling any pressure or obligation is the best mindset towards this hobby. :) I don't participate in any of the blogging parties because 1) I am not really a diy kind of blogger and 2) too much time/pressure and so on. I have never paid attention to the numbers; infact I removed the followers widget from my blog because I think the amount of readers (I so dislike the word followers) I have is only my business to know. :) Know that of you post only once in a awhile.. we will be delighted to see what you have to share.. I know I will!! Enjoy Spring and it is nice to see you back!

I actually do not have the talent some bloggers do - photography, decorating, etc, but I do enjoy sharing when I feel I have something to say or show.

Very pretty photos today! I had never thought of forcing apple blossoms, but I might try it. Our apple tree produces such puny little apples, that it's not good for much other than pretty Spring time blossoms!

Jo, I really understand you!! I have thought a few times same things, too! I haven`t anymore so much time here in blogworld, it is time when you have more time here and it is time when you have less time...so I have decided that sometimes I leave a comment but in last months I have understood that I can only to look at so beautiful photos and admire them without comments:)But it feels wrong, just look at without comments...:( Do you understand what I mean? So it WAS time when I don`t visit if had time to leave a comment too. I am goofy, I know...
But now I learn to blogging in that way which is my own way, which is suitable for me...I want to have fun with my own blog, not stress!:)
Iam so happy that I can stll admire you beautiful photos, I love your style to decoration home, simple and that`s why sooo beautiful!!♥

  80. Hi Jo,
I had missed your goodbye post so I was a little clueless at first. But this is something I was going to do a few months ago, but decided to try posting must less instead, and allowing myself to answer 10 or so e-mail and or comments a couple times a week. There are days I don't even get on the computer now. It sure took the stress out of it for me for now. There may come a time when I go comment free or just open a new private blog in which I can post all my garden photos to. I have loved (no...more like ADORED) your blog and each and every post...so I am thrilled to read that you will be leaving it up for our enjoyment. Thank you because your home is such an inspiration to us all.
Please never feel the need to answer a comment from me, because if I comment it is never to get a comment back...it is because I just want to tell you how much I enjoyed something you've posted. That is how it should be.

I am so glad to have read this post today, because it is making me think about these things again. With the garden, house,Landon, my other children, blog etc...my face to face friends are feeling a little neglected, and I never meant that to happen.

Now about these amazing photos on this post...I can never get enough of your beautiful surroundings.

sending big hugs your way...and Spring weather I hope!
